"For Love, Money, and the Good of the Game."
In Greece, and of course in all Europe, football has always played a great role in the fans' lives and gradually became a part of them. At the beginning, it was considered to be a sport of the lower classes, providing a way to escape from the sociological problems of the time. People would find consolation when being on the spot admiring their favorite team. Moreover, nobody could treat soccer as business, since it was nothing else but a sport. But the past six years the situation has changed, as money is entering the world of football. So, it is starting to address mostly to the middle-income classes, giving in such a way more emphasis to the spectacle than on teams' fanatism. In other words, it is changing from a traditionally public sport to a high-level business activity (Andrianopoulos). And this is the case, since clubs have no difference from the other firms, as they consist of the same three groups: owners, employees, and consumers (Cooke 205). Despite that, the significance of football remains important, since it keeps on entertaining all the fans, and obviously provides a way out of the daily routine...
