Athletic Training is one of the most overlooked careers in the United States. Not many people know of this career and the benefits it brings to Athletes and the Athletic Trainers themselves.
A career dealing with medicine and sports, the trainers are often called "Sports Doctors", they treat injuries that occur to athletes on and off the playing field. But Athletic Trainers do so much more then just treat injuries, they also give advice on how to prevent them. Their main purpose is to keep athletes healthy and competitive, so they can practice or compete without any worry of being hurt.
"Athletic Trainers focus most of their attention of preventing injuries" (Casgrove). Having athletes stretch, run and lift weights are a few ways to keep athletes in top shape. Trainers also plan exercise programs for a certain weakness an athlete might have, such as in the knees and in the shoulders.
Before practice or a game, Trainers massage body parts to relive soreness, strains or bruises, so the athlete can be in the best shape before being active. If a athlete comes in and complains of a soreness somewhere, it's the trainers duty to see if the athlete is physical fit to go out and perform...
