Positive and Negative Aspects of the Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution was a period in time that was absolutely necessary to the progress of the world. It was a time of transformation from the use of hand tools to machinery. This change created happiness, life opportunities, and overall, a better way of life. Unfortunately, it also caused many hardships and great turmoil as well.
One major negative effect from the Industrial Revolution was the harsh aspects of the working conditions. Women and children were expected to work up to sixteen hours a day and doing labor that could cause them serious injury. They were also paid ridiculous wages. Women were paid around five shillings a week and children around one. Working conditions were about as bad as the physical conditions as well. For example, in Manchester, England, the city was very polluted, streets were covered in filth, buildings were blackened with smoke, the stench was unbearable, and the main river was like a flood of liquid manure...
