YOU CAN'T ALWAYS SAY WHAT YOU WANT
(First Amendment Essay)
Even though the First Amendment of the United States Constitution seems to guarantee to everyone the freedom of speech, of religion, of the press, and the right of assembly, those rights do have limits.
The freedom of speech doesn't mean you can yell what you want whenever you want. One good example of these limits on free speech is a person can not yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater when there is no fire. The Supreme Court of the United States says that freedom of speech may be limited only when its exercise creates a "clear and present danger to society."
There are different types of speech. Sometimes what you wear is a sort of political speech. Some kids were kicked out of school for wearing black armbands to protest the war in Vietnam. The Supreme Court, in Tinker v. Des Moines, said the kids could wear
the armbands but said other political speech could be limited if it was disruptive or interfered with the rights of others...
