At the beginning of this paper I am wondering, "Where do I start?" There are a number of different connections that may be made through the art (techne) or science (depending on individual preferences) known as "rhetoric." Considering there are a so many issues to address, I am going to attempt to answer three questions:
1. What is the role of rhetoric and how is it defined?
2. What is the relation between Plato, Aristotle, and the Sophists?
3. How has rhetoric changed from classical to modern rhetoric?
It is by answering these questions that I hope to communicate my own understanding of rhetoric, how it was used, and how it is used today.
