Over the years, gambling has become a common form of entertainment for Americans. People spend more money on gambling than any other form of entertainment. This is due to the increased number of gambling establishments, the accessibility to these establishments and the fact that it is addictive. I feel that legalized gambling causes many problems in our society. I will be discussing the brief history of gambling and what effects it has on society.
Gambling has evolved a lot over the years. In 1890 all forms of gambling became illegal by direct prohibition. Gambling continued illegally and was widely viewed as being a "low-life" thing to do. It was unpopular due to reports of cheating by those in charge. State after state began abolishing their anti-gambling laws in the 1920's...
