As background research for this charity coursework, I looked at and analysed various different types of charity media. Firstly I looked at a Leonard Cheshire charity brochure. I noticed that the language used on the front of the leaflet was pejorative and derogatory, as there was words such as cripple, retard, spastic, moron, mongo and spacker, in speech marks. These speech marks emphasise the fact that these words, when used, are used in an offensive manner. Underneath these words is a sentence stating, "make these words a thing of the past', this states that the leaflet is to stop people using these offensive terms against disabled people.
On the first page there is a collage of personal images of people enjoying themselves, or being positive in what they are doing. On the following page there is a sentence saying 'enabled by Leonard Cheshire', this use of the word enable is a positive word, the opposite of disable, which the leaflet is about. Following this there are a list of sayings, which are 'intelligent, aware, talented, strong, active and determined'. This is a list of positive words, which are in contrast of what people would not normally associate with disabled people.
