THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION (FCC)
One of the organizations that have more association with people in the United States and in fact, is part of their life is the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) due to its important role in regulating all kind of telecommunications. However, to better illustrate what the FCC's does and how is involve with people, is by given some examples of its functions.
FCC rules protect you when: "your teenager upstairs sends their homework assignment to the printer downstairs via your new wireless home network, you swipe your credit card at the gasoline pump, you lock your car with your remote entry system, etc."
As this example shows, the FCC is deeply involved in our daily life to guarantee people the complete use and freedom of all means of telecommunication, but as I said, that we do not realize its presence. However, after recognizing the importance of this organization, and how is deeply involved with all kind of people, let's try to define it by using the official concept which appears at the FCC web site.
"The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent United States government agency, directly responsible to Congress, and is in charge of regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable. The FCC's jurisdiction covers the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. possessions."
