Three Worlds Discussed in
A Midsummer Night's Dream
In the play, A Midsummer Night's Dream, three worlds were distinguished; the real world that included characters like Theseus and Hippolyta; the mechanical world that consisted of actors like Nike Bottom, and Francis Flute, acting out a play, Pyramus and Thisbe; and the fantastical world that included fairies such as Titania and Oberon. The three worlds interacted throughout the play and held many similarities. However, I believe that the dominant similarity was love and how it affected everyone.
In the real world, many characters were inflicted with love. They included Theseus and Hippolyta, Lysander and Herima, and Demetrius and Helena. Two types of love existed in the real world, true passionate headstrong love of the youth and mature love of the older people. The true passionate headstrong love lingered in the lives of Lysnader, Hermia, Demetrius, and Helena. Helena and Demetrius had love all confused; they were once married but Demetrius left Helena after he met Hermia. However, Helena was still deeply in love with him and he thought he no longer had feelings for Helena but he was proven wrong in the end of the play when they remarried again. However, Hermia and Lysander were just overflowing with love for each other, or at least until Lysander was mistakenly placed under a spell and fell in love with Hermia...
