1 Introduction
Children have been used as workers widely in most nations. Child labour means 'all children below 12 years of age working in any economic activities, those aged 12 to 14 years engaged in harmful work, and all children engaged in the worst forms of child labor'(Unicef, n.d.).
Based on the estimation of the International Labour Organization, there were 246 million children in child labour worldwide with 171 million in hazardous situations or conditions, for example working in mines, working with chemicals and pesticides in agriculture or working with dangerous machinery (ibid.). Over 95% of these children are found in the developing countries. Asia has over16% of the child workers, with Africa having the highest percentage of its children working- 1 in every 3 children. In Latin America, 7% of children work (International Labour organization, 2002). This global phenomenon continues to damage children's health, their growth, their education and even their lives...
