The Consumer Interest
The consumer interest focuses on two main issues; consumers seeking value for their money and equity in the market place. There are many factors that effect how the consumer interest is pursued and maintained, one of which is the formation of special interest groups that lobby for the consumer. This interest inevitably led to the consumer movement in which the people became more aware of their rights as consumers in the marketplace. This consumer awareness has led the public to come together and become active in pursuing fairness in the marketplace.
The consumer interest can be defined as the realization of consumer rights in the marketplace. It focuses on the need for acquiring, defending, and maintaining the specific interests important to consumers. One of these interests is the idea that consumers should receive some type of value for their money. Consumers want to receive the highest possible quality for the lowest amount of money, which is rarely, if ever, the case. Businesses, on the other hand, want to charge the highest possible price and offer the lowest possible quality, which is where special interest groups come in.
