The Kindness of Two Strangers
We experience an act of kindness every day, even if we don't notice it sometimes. Sometimes all people notice in life are the inconsiderate things instead of the kindness some offer. Throughout my life, I've experienced many acts of kindness, but when I think of what's been done just for me, one thing stands out among the rest. I was adopted by people who were practically strangers. I knew of Marty and Lori Ross, but I did not know them on a personal level, nor did they know my sister, Becky, and me.
I was just starting my adolescence at thirteen, the age that most young girls need their mothers, when my mom was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Our mother caught the cancer late in its stage so it had time to progress in her system. Due to the cancer's aggression, Mom was immediately referred to the Cancer Treatment Center in Tulsa. She had to stay there for weeks at a time due to intense radiation that made her deathly ill and she was unable to take care of herself. Because of our father's absence, my sister and I would rotate weeks from school to stay with her...
