Looking across the many cultures our world shares, we can't help but notice the variety of
differences in gender. Although there are many, this essay will discuss two topics of gender differences found across cultures. They are division of labor and gender rituals of coming of age.
In almost every culture, labor and work is divided among males and females. Dating back to ancient times, there were two basic divisions, hunting and gathering. Men would do the hunting while women would gather food and resources necessary for building their homes. Some may even argue that the amount of tasks the women had far exceeded the task of hunting for the men. Kimmel explains that in some cultures, women build the house; in others, they do the cooking. In most cultures, women mainly care for the children while men are the breadwinners, yet this is beginning to change. Women are entering areas of the working world that they have never been in before...
