A Rose for Emily
Fear is very powerful. It opens the door to the animal instincts that are inside of us all, the instincts that help us survive in any situation. Fear can make the most sane person do the unthinkable, and its effects on an already disturbed person is exponentially greater. This is what happens in William Faulkner's a Rose for Emily. The last member of a once prominent family in the community is afraid of being left alone, afraid of being forgotten.
