Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Warfare (NBC)
Introduction
There is no doubt that the threat posed by NBC Weapons in any future conflict is very real. History shows us how effective these weapons can be and although all might agree that their use should be avoided, who can say what a desperate enemy might do. Weapons of this type have been used for a great deal longer than is usually thought. The soldier who poisoned his enemy's water supply was surely using a form of chemical warfare. Chemicals were used during the First World War, though thankfully not in the last war. Most people throughout the world will know what happened at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There is no doubt that the super powers and smaller nations have the capabilities of offence and defence in the use of these weapons, but we must always be aware that many of these 'weapons' can be delivered in small and easily concealed amounts but yet have devastating effects upon unsuspecting forces and or civilian targets. However, our policy has always been to have only a defensive capability.
You are trained to use your Individual Protection Equipment (IPE) which protects you to some extent from the hazards of these weapons. If you are to survive in this environment you will need to be well practised in the various individual survival drills...
