Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1951 in Seattle, Washington. Bill grew up with the vision that every business and family should own a computer. At the age of thirteen Gates was enrolled in Lakeside School; Lakeside was a school that offered students the opportunity to explore their own interests. Gates would read far ahead of his classmates so that he had extra free time to play on the computers and fulfill his interest in computers and business. When Gates was in eighth grade, Lakeside bought a teletype machine and computer time that was donated from the "Mothers Club" rummage sale. The system was an Asr-33 teletype (see appendix). The computer came with a keyboard, a printer, and a paper tape punch and reader. The system cost $89 a month to rent and $8 an hour for on-line fees. Shortly the donation from the "Mothers Club" was exhausted. Getting free computer time would be Gates main goal along with his friend Paul Allen...
