Modernity and its ramifications had significant effects upon the development of society and the way in which social interaction occurred. As these developments perpetuated the complexity of society grew and diversified. Modernity has been and continues to be a very important issue in sociology.
Modernity is an integral concept within the sociological world. It refers to the introduction of a new means of social thought that commenced in the eighteen hundreds. Essentially the discipline of sociology materialised as a repercussion of modernity, this is commonly referred to as "The Great Transformation", a period when massive changes in social, political, economic, intellectual and technological spheres occurred. From this, extensive progress eventuated. For example, the increased efficiency in agriculture and the manufacturing industry in the industrialisation period led to greater profits and elevated rewards.
