American Revolution, is it a radical or conservative movement.
People used to look at the American Revolution as not a total revolution; however, beyond that point is more of a conservative change in power in the new world. The colonists fought against English army for control of resources, especially lands, and they fought to do thing their way. After a period of anarchy under the Articles of Confederation, America was being run by a very similar system that the colonists had revolted against a few years earlier. There were many problem still remained unsolved, they gathered together to create what is called a conservative revolution. Slaves were still enslaved; Indians were still considered savages; women were not given equal rights.
Gordon S. Wood, in "the Radicalism of the American Revolution" , " he contends that although the American Revolution was different from other revolutions, it ushered in sweeping political, social, and cultural changes and radically transformed American life" (Wood). His article mostly emphasizes on the social and political changes due to the American Revolution, and those were the main reasons that he called it the radical revolution. He stated that the colonists had more freedom, treated more equally by the government and monarchy after the revolution other than any other part of the century (Wood)
