Comparison of Macbeths life to a visual image Ladder

Were I to visualize Macbeth's life, I would see it as a ladder. On one side, a ladder has a steep incline up which you climb to reach the highest possible goal that you can reach; for Macbeth, this goal was to become king. However, once you reach the top, a ladder has an equally steep decline right back down to the ground.
In the beginning, Macbeth is a hero, looked up to by all who have ever caught his name in casual conversation. He stands up for his country, and fights for all that he believes in, including loyalty to his king and kinsman, Duncan. This is synonymous with his ascension up the "ladder" of his life. Each good deed he accomplishes is symbolic of another wrung of the ladder he has taken a step up onto.
Eventually, Macbeth reaches his ultimate goal, the title of king. He is like an acrophobe in many ways; Lady Macbeth has to coax him along and figuratively push him up the ladder to success. Slowly but surely, Macbeth reaches the top and is king, although for a short while...
