Marijuana in Our Culture: legalize or not?
Cannabis sativa - marijuana, pot, weed, dope, grass, swag, refer, that fire, herb, mj, kon bud, or mary jane. Whatever you want to call it you know what it is and its all around you. Through tv, movies, music, or even the guy that lives down the street; anyway or all of these ways you know what it is because its everywhere, and it's a huge part of our popular culture and society as a whole. The dispute over if marijuana should be legalized has not seized for decades. Many whom are against all drugs including marijuana say that it's a "gateway" drug which can lead to harder things, and that it increases violence and crime in our nation. Others who are pro-cannabis claim that pot is a natural gift, giving euphoric feelings, and that it is no more harmful than legal drugs such as cigarettes and alcohol. This debate has become no closer to being resolved, and the flames roar higher as years go on and more things become part of its culture; such as its medical use, ties to terrorism, and increasing acceptance not only in America but across the globe.
Since the 60's onward marijuana's use has been opposed by many, and over the years more and more laws and programs have been put into place to prohibit its use America. Those who are anti-marijuana focus on its health and social effects for there reasoning to stop its use...
