An article entitled "For Chinese in the USA, all is Not Happy", which was printed in USA Today, identifies the issue of diversity in the United States. We like to think of the United States is a "salad bowl", or "melting pot" of different cultures, all living and working together. But it is not that simple, whenever people move they are faced by challenges of adjusting and assimilating. Assimilation is societies way to respond to the diversity. There are three types: pluralism, melting pot, and conformity. In order to be a melting pot there must be an equal exchange of gains and loses between all the cultures. If America were indeed a melting pot English wouldn't be the dominating language. But it is, we are the majority and expect immigrants or minorities to loose their culture and gain ours.
