Central Idea: The following is a speech about healthcare in the United States
Specific Purpose: At the end of my speech, the audience will learn about our existing healthcare system, the increase in the number of uninsured people, and some issues regarding universal healthcare.
General Purpose: Persuade
Introduction: Imagine yourself as a doctor in an emergency room. A middle-aged man walks in with a bloody cloth around his hand. The man sits down and begins to tell you how he cut himself wile working in his garage. After the nurse checks the man's vitals, you notice his blood pressure is much higher than normal. The nurse cleans his wound and stitches up his hand. You write a prescription for blood pressure medication and recommend him to a specialist. The man leaves and gets his prescription. He does not have health insurance and cannot afford to refill his prescription. He never goes to a specialist and his medication runs out...
