The Solar Feeder Company is one of the few companies who make bird feeders. The market is not extremely competitive. SDI has a great chance of succeeding in this industry because of their differentiated high quality product. The SDI Company on the other hand lacks many key success factors such as cost competitiveness, effective marketing and a good distribution system. The SDI needs a strategic analysis that will lead the company to good strategic and beneficial choices to determine the company's future.
COMPETITVE NATURE OF THE INDUSTRY
The industry of bird feeder is not extremely competitive, only few companies dominate the market. The industry requires efficiency, also production is very costly as a result of the high labor cost considering the kind of work that needs to be done by hand (craft) and the amount of time it takes to produce each piece. Total amount of money spent in this industry by consumers are about $843 million dollars per year. That is a huge number considering the size of the industry.
