Waking Ned Devine (1998) is a warm-hearted comedy that takes place in a little Irish town, Tulaigh Morh, outside of Dublin. It is about two old friends, Jackie O'Shea and Michael O'Sullivan and the humorous adventure the get into when they find out someone in their small town of 52 people has won the lotto. The two men plot to try and find out who in the town it might be, in hopes that if they are nice to the person, that he or she might share the winnings with them. They believe the winnings are estimated to be about million pounds.
Jackie and Michael do everything from buying a man a pint at the bar and giving him some good smelling soaps to hosting a chicken dinner party at the O'Shea residence to snoop and figure out who the possible winner may be. But a couple pounds poorer and a dinner party later they still can't seem to figure out who is the winner. That is till Jackie's wife points out to him that one piece of chicken breast was left over and that means one person did not show up. Jackie figures out that the only person who did not show up was a town member named Ned Devine.
As Jackie goes over to Ned's house that night, he discovers Ned deceased sitting on a sofa. In observing this Jackie notices a small piece of paper in Ned's hand that is the winning lottery ticket...
