Among other useless things that Clinton spent his time pressing while he was in office, it recently came to my attention that during his last year, former President Clinton made hate crime protections a high priority for his administration. These hate crime legislations aim to protect anyone who is the target of bias-related violence.
Classic cases such as the murder of Matthew Shepard and James Byrd come to mind when "hate crimes" are mentioned. This topic grows to be more and more of an issue as the number of openly gays rise along with the number of homophobes.
It is ludicrous that we would ensue laws directly aimed to protect minorities. Since when did a victim of a crime disserve a higher form of protection because of his or her sexuality, race, or religion?
It seems to me that these laws and people who believe in them directly bash the idea that "every man is created equal." It is not fair and equal for someone who killed a gay to receive a higher form of punishment than someone who simply killed. On the flip side, it is not fair and equal for someone to in-effect receive more protection from the law simply because they are gay.
There is no doubt that people are abused and killed solely because of their race, religion, or because they're gay...
