Since the beginning of time, man has had the ability to think and act upon these thoughts; thus, the creation of many technological, artistic, and engineering, advances throughout history. Throughout time, and especially in Ancient Greece, there has existed a curiosity of how objects came to be, or what makes up the planets and the stars, or even how or why has man come to exist. From this curiosity arose many ideas and theories that marked the beginning of what we know about life and existence, and is the foundation of all that we know today.
One such great thinker, or philosopher of Ancient Greece was Democritus. Democritus lived between 460 BC and 380 BC in the northern territory of Greece known as Abdera (Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 2001). Though very little is known about the manhis works and theories have been the foundation for many great philosophers and geniuses to follow.
Many of the writings of Aristotle and Epicurus, refer back to the teachings and theories of Democritus (Conner & Robertson, 1999). Though Democritus wrote on many subjects, very few of his works remain. In fact, documentation suggests that the writings of Democritus were destroyed during the third, fourth and fifth centuries. His views were such that they contradicted the belief that the Gods could only negotiate existence...
