There is a major problem in the United States with the issue of the price of prescription drugs. The cost of the drugs has gone up tremendously within the last year. In the article, a statistic was that the top ten best-selling drugs in the world brought in more than $40 billion for their makers in 2002. That is a huge profit and is the reason why the drug market brings in the most money in the United States.
The other problem has to do with the Medicare for the elderly. The elderly who need drugs are paying large amounts for multiple drugs that Medicare does not necessarily cover. Medicare does not cover every single drug for the elderly, which makes them responsible for the cost. In some cases with the elderly, they have multiple prescriptions to fill, and with the cost so high, they have to choose which prescription they need more.
A solution to this problem can come from help from Canada. There are many problems which may take years to fix, so a simple solution would be for the United States to legalize Canadian drugs in the United States to buy us time to come up with a permanent solution...
