The Mark of a Woman
All through history the role of women has been constantly changing and restless. Modern art and theater give opinions and express feelings about the concept of the role of a woman. The battle of the sexes in society alone reflects the strife in which woman live. Are women "asking" for the way they are treated? Do women take advantage of sexual harassment? Do women limit themselves? These questions are aspects of three contemporary plays that I am comparing.
In each of the three plays the women represent the issue of personal strife. However, I believe that these issues are not due to the external conflicts, but the internal conflicts that women bring upon themselves. I feel that these plays, rather than blame society or men, actually turn the tables on women and defend society and blame women for their own down fall...
