Best known for the hit musical Singin' in the Rain, Gene Kelly's career spanned many decades filling all sorts of entertainment roles -- from movie star to dancer and choreographer to director. Kelly liberated the musical and gave it an entirely new style and energy. His contributions and efforts have made Kelly an important figure in the world of dance.
It was apparent that at such a young age that Kelly would go on to become one of the most famous tap dancers of his time. Eugene Curran Kelly was born on August 3, 1912 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (http: //members.aol.com/humorone/bio.htm). From the time Kelly was a boy, his mother Harriet, made sure to enrich her children's minds with such things as music, dance, and art lessons. Although Gene and his brothers Jim and Fred endured considerable taunting from the rough neighborhood thugs, it was quickly apparent that Gene and Fred, at least, found dancing very easy to do and enjoyed the attention it brought them...
