Parapsychology can be defined as "the scientific and scholarly study of certain unusual events associated with human experience," although there is much skepticism whether or not it is considered a true science. This is largely due to the vast amount of fraud by those who falsely claim to have psychic powers and so on. PSI began as an oganised field of inquiry in the nineteenth century, when there was much conflict between science and religion. The purpose of this essay is to discuss scientific evidence for and against the existence of PSI. It will focus on the different aspects of scientific experiment such as logical argument and empirical evidence. Also, the ways in which an experiment can be flawed will be approached. These flaws in experiments and false claims are the main reason why PSI is not treated as a genuine science. Skeptics or critics tend to believe that the field of parapsychology is just a way of capitalizing on uncritical media and a gullible public.
