Victorian British Literature
The period of British Literature known has the Victorian period lasted from 1832 to 1901. ... She went on the rule for more than sixty years the longest reign in British history”(McGraw-Hill, Literature 771). “The Victorian period of English Literature spans over six decades, the year 1870 is often used to divide the era into “Early Victorian” and “Late Victorian”. ... Great Britain during this time had a huge influence on the world in every aspect of life from war to food to literature because of their great empire that was spread across the globe. ... It is hard to calculate the effect this outpouring of literature, old and new, had on people and writers, but it must have been enormous” (Schlossberg, Religious Influences). The Bible is the single most influential piece of literature to be written many of the worlds greatest writers either refer, interpret, quote or are influence from something that has been written in the Bible. ... The authors and readers of the literary period in history were influenced in many different ways by the Bible and God to family and even by previous works of literature. ... A strong middle class arose and its rigid standards and high moral tone defined the age” (McGraw-Hill, Literature 771). ... This group of people turned their backs on an increasingly industrialized and dingy world, they created paintings with bright colors and began reading novels as well as comical works of literature” (McGraw-Hill, Literature 773). ... “People in the Victorian period enjoyed reading in a variety of genres. ... Hyde vividly portrayed the deep split between a Victorian mans public and private lives” (McGraw-Hill, Literature 774).
For the first time literature during this period began to have more and more controversial authors began to talk about subjects that haven‘t before been written in poems, short stories, plays or novels.
