The Picture of Dorian Gray was written by Oscar Wilde. It takes place in London in 1889. The main character is Joseph M. Stoddart, a managing editor of Lippincott's Monthly Magazine. The story concentrates on an incredibly handsome young man named Dorian Gray. It shows the evil of the world.
The novel first appeared as a novella in the June 20, 1890 issue of Lippincott's Monthly Magazine. Dorian Gray caused quite a stir because readers called in an immoral story. Wilde published a revised version of the story in book form the next year.
