John Brown was born in Torrington, Connecticut was known under many pseudonyms such as Old Brown, Fighting Brown and Osssawatomie Brown. Brown appeared in Kansas in 1855 and settled in Osage. John Brown was an announced Antislavery man and a religious enthusiast of Presbyterian. One of his sons, Fredrick, was brutally murdered by a party of invading Missourians for no reason. Browns other son, John Jr., was chained and driven on foot before horses from Ossawatomie to Tecumseh due to his political opinions. Brown's sons' homes and his home were set on fire and destroyed. This abuse was not only focused on the males but the town also ridiculed the females. The town had a meeting due to John Brown stating that if he did not leave Brown would be hanged. His friends and neighbors were killed and a bounty was out for Brown...
