The causes of the Mexican war of 1846 vary and exact blame cant be placed on any one group entirely, but the war was mostly caused by an attack on the southern border of Texas on Americans from Mexico. And thus, Mexico had incited war with America to a major degree. Both sides share some blame, because they were both active in the war itself. Many people believed that a big cause of the Mexican war was Mexico's failure to pay losses for aid by America during the Mexican fight for independence.
Western settlement also negatively impacted Mexico's and America's relations with one another. They both had wanted Texas as part of there territories and no settlement was reachedeventually Mexicans invaded American territory in attempts to gain the land. Westward expansion and manifest destiny are to blame.
Much that caused the war was just misunderstanding on both sides. President Polk sent troops between Nueces river and the Rio Grande. Mexicans felt it was only the river...
