SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING BY ALAN SILLITOE
For our theme Home I chose a book written by Alan Sillitoe:
Saturday Night and Sunday Morning.
The main character is Arthur Seaton, who has worked in a
bicycle factory in Nottingham since he was fifteen.
The book describes the life of a working-class man,
living in Nottingham, an industrial town in North Midland.
His work at the lathe is very monotonous, which gives him
time to think: " you lived in a compatible world of pictures
that passed through your mind like a magic lantarn, often in

imagination ran free and did acrobatic tricks with your past and with what might be your future." ( pg.32 )
Nevertheless he " is having a good life and don`t care about
anything" ( pg.32 ) He is selfish, lying to friends, sleeping
with married women.
The book is divided into two parts, on a saturday night people
have different thoughts than on a sunday morning.
The first part of the book Saturday Night begins with a
description of a typical saturday night, having fun and
drinking at the White Horse Pub and spending the night with
Brenda, a married woman.

risks, being rebellious...
