Databases today require extensive planning and architectural design, because organizations demand better performance, higher security, simplicity, among other characteristics than in recent years. No longer is the focus of database employment based strictly on the ability to store data, responsibilities are much broader; organizations want improved designs with scalability, while keeping costs at a minimum. ... While performance, security, and on-demand data access are vital, it seems simplicity in design and use are the key factors to user effectiveness, system
productivity and acceptance.
We as a class have liberally discussed what key components make up a good simplistic database form and structure. Most of us easily recognize that a visually appetizing, well structured, simplistic design is the key. From my experience, database design must reflect the users on all levels and their requirements, while meeting the needs of the organization.
