The Flying squirrel
There are many endangered animals in todays society, now more than ever people around the globe are making an effort to put a end to the possible liqudation of these animals. For this project I chose to study the northern flying squirrel because I thought it would be interesting to learn how they "fly", While at the same time learning about how they actually came to be endangered. An interesting fact is that the northern flying squirrel glides 150 feet from tree to tree. Another fact is that northern (sabrinus) means "river nymph" in Latin. Also, they eat underground fungi that causes plant diseases throughout the forest. Their tail resembles a feather and acts like a rudder. The last interesting fact is that northern flying squirrels are in the same family as marmots, chipmunks, and prairie dogs. Enough with the facts lets talk about the actual squirrels themselves. The Squirrel's Scientific name is Glaucomys sabrinus, Meaning River nymph. The subfamily is Petauristinae, and the squirelle's family name is Sciuridae...
