Guilt is something we as Americans have become obsessed with. We seek out the guilty intensely to have someone or something to point the finger at. We seek justice regardless of the situation, because finding the guilty and punishing them is the closest we can get to have justice. After the tragedy of the attacks of September 11th, 2001, we were quick to place blame on certain groups and people. Rather than discuss how to solve the problem that had been caused, we took up arms and went searching for an unattainable foe, seeking revenge.
The exact definition of guilt is:
1 : the fact of having committed a breach of conduct especially violating law and involving a penalty; broadly : guilty conduct.
2 a : the state of one who has committed an offense especially consciously b : feelings of culpability especially for imagined offenses or from a sense of inadequacy
3 : a feeling of culpability for offenses.
