The Zodiac Killer is considered to be one of the most notorious killers in history. He has still yet to be caught which leaves him on the top of unsolved mysteries even for organizations like the FBI. The first murder he was accredited with was some 38 years ago when he took the life of an 18 year old girl by the name of Cheri Jo Bates in 1966. This was a premeditated murder in that he disabled her car which led investigators to believe he offered his help in which gained her trust the brutally murdered her with a knife. They found he body with stab wounds on her back chest and her throat slit very deeply. Following her killing an anonymous letter was sent to a local newspaper giving a detailed confession of the murder and warnings that there would be more. Six months later on the anniversary of Bates death another letter was sent to her father and the local police department. The letters sent both read the exact same thing:
BATES HAD
TO DIE
THERE WILL
BE MORE
The police department believed that Bates had known her killer which led them to strongly believe her ex-boyfriend was a key suspect to the point that in 1998 there was a warrant issued for samples of the mans hair, skin and saliva to a crime lab.
