Pros of Capital Punishment
An obvious pro of capital punishment would have to be that the murderers, who were sentenced to death, will obviously not be able to kill anyone again. "Of the roughly 52,000 state prison inmates serving time for murder in 1984, an estimated 810 had previously been convicted of murder and had killed 821 persons following their previous murder convictions. Executing each of these inmates would have saved 821 lives."
Without some type of deterrent, there would be no incentive for the murders to stop murdering, and life in prison doesn't place the same incentive that death does. By ridding our prisons of these criminals, the government saves money which it could use to help heal the old, the young, and the sick. Prisons in many countries are over-crowded and under-funded, and this problem is made worse by life sentences or delayed death sentences for murderers. Some criminals are beyond rehabilitation; it may be that capital punishment should be reserved for serial killers, terrorists, murderers of police man, and so on. Why should tax-payers bear the cost of supporting a murderer for an entire lifetime? This punishment is more of an "eye for an eye" punishment, seeing this as retribution allows people to think differently of Capital punishment, as seen in some polls. Capital punishment may also be a sort of vengeance for the family of the victims (a more legal vengeance), this can also, in a way, justify the families feelings towards many things...
