"The Pit and the Pendulum"
The Pit and the Pendulum was written by Edgar Allan Poe. Almost all of the pieces and poems Poe wrote were dark and gothic. This could be a side effect from the Opium he smoked, but he had a bad childhood so that is another reason for the darkness in his works of art. I think he wrote this way because of his hardships and trails he had to go through in his life.
In "The Pit and the Pendulum" the man is sentenced in a dark room with only candles, after his sentence he is taken away. Next he wakes up in a pitch black room, the man finds some water and bread, which he eats. Then he continues exploring the prison. He found it to be around one hundred feet in diameter. He decides to walk across the room. While he is doing this the rag he ripped off of his clothes tangles around his feet, and he trips...
