What once was a terrible disease that confined an individual to a life void of human interaction and touch has now found a ray of hope and relief in the form of stem cells gathered from the discarded life source of a newborn fetus. Stem cells gathered from the umbilical cords of just born babies have proven to re-grow immune systems in individuals with the life taking disease known as severe combined immune deficiency disease.
Severe Combined Immune Deficiency Disease became widely known during the 1970’s and 80’s when David Vetter, a child with X-linked SCID was brought to the forefront by the media because of his life of 12 years spent encased in a in a germ-free plastic bubble.
