The Grapes of Wrath demonstrates the hardships that many Okies had to live
through. At many times these okies felt lost and confused. They where abandoned by their
hopes and dreams to be left with nothing. These Okies had to strive to live on and keep
their hope alive. Throughout the story many different morals and ideas are shown. Many
of these ideas are also demonstrated in "I Shall be Released" by Bob Dylan. This song
demonstrates the confusion of life and the harsh judgment the can befall groups of people.
There are three main ideas in "I Shall be Released" that correspond to ideas in The Grapes
of Wrath.
The first stanza of "I Shall be Released" starts out: "They say everything can be
replaced, Yet every distance is not near. So I remember every face of every man who put
me here...
