Mohair is a fibre with similar properties to wool and is sourced for its strength, durability, lustre and softness. Mohair comes from Angora goats which are shorn twice a year and the average length of fibre is 12-16 cm's.
In 2003 Australia produced 300 000 KG's of mohair this is 6 % of the total world production. 90% of Australian mohair is exported to countries such as Korea, South Africa and Asia. The consumers pay premiums for the quality of mohair. They particularly require kemp free, clean mohair with a lack of tenderness...
