This movie takes place in a future that is not hard to imagine. The birth of a child is no longer left up to fate. Instead, the sex and both the physical and mental characteristics of the child can be chosen before the fetus even starts to develop. Vincent Freeman was not one of these children. His parents conceived Vincent with no help from the geneticists and thus Vincent was born as one of the few "God Children" or invalids. Upon his birth, it was discovered that among other defects, such as myopia and ADD, Vincent had a 99% chance of a heart defect and had a life expectancy of thirty years. When his parents decided to have another child, they decided not to leave it up to chance. Therefore, when Anton Freeman was born, he was an example of a perfect human specimen. Vincent had to compete with his brother while growing up, but could never win. His brother was taller, stronger and had better vision...
