The definition of racism is: "The assumption that the characteristics and abilities of an individual are determined by race and that one race is biologically superior to another." (Webster's Encyclopedic Dictionary- Deluxe Edition) People today are still judged on skin color and/or background, and that is just not right. Racism in the United States is a well known issue. Since September 11, 2001, people of the Middle Eastern descent have been racially stereo-typed. Issues of racism in the United States have been around since it became a country. There are two different kinds of racism: 1) Overt- easily detectable and takes the form of direct behavioral or verbal racially discrimitory acts; 2) Covert- more subtle, occurs more often than overt and is more easily hidden, denied, or discounted.
If we want to erase racism from our society today and the future, then we need to stop advertising it in the media. Some of the time when racism is depicted in the media, it is either exaggerated or false views of racism. Today, racism statistics are at an all time low.
