Dylan Thomas wrote in the twentieth century. He was a poet and a short story writer. In the 20th century the traditional values of Western civilization started to be questioned by a number of new writers. Traditional literary forms were often ignored, and new ones were being created as writers sought new ways of expressing different kinds of experiences.
Dylan Thomas was born in Swansea, Wales on October 27, 1914. He is widely known by many literary scholars as one of the Twentieth Century's most influential lyrical poets. Thomas had a happy childhood, of which he spoke about in, "A Child's Christmas In Wales". His room had a beautiful view of Swansea Bay, a scene which influenced his early poems, such as "The Hill of Sea and Sky is Carried". When Thomas was nine he was enrolled at Swansea Grammar School, where his father David John Thomas worked as an English teacher. He excelled in English and reading, but didn't care much about other subjects and dropped out of school at the age of sixteen...
