The Enlightenment was a period in the mid-eighteenth century in Europe, in which people began believing in the use of reason and scientific method. The Scientific Revolution had a major impact on the Age of Enlightenment. The Renaissance writers and artists adopted a secular outlook on life rather than the more spiritual outlook. These ideas found their way into the Enlightenment. Writers advocated the liberty and the reason. The Enlightenment was transformed scientifically, everything had to be tested by the standard of reason; intellectually, groups began to apply reason to all aspects of life; and socially, as people gathered more and gained more freedom.
During the Enlightenment scientific knowledge advanced quickly. Sir Isaac Newton discovered the law of gravity. Newton published his fully developed theories in a book Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, summarizing the workings of the universe.
