EDISON THE MAN WHO MADE THE FUTURE

EDISON THE MAN WHO MADE THE FUTURE

Edison, The name it seems to be brought up in every conversation involving electricity or the light bulb but what does the name mean how is it possible for a simple man to have been responsible for the light that is allowing me to type this very report. Thanks to the information that I have gathered from this book I’m able to bring you the true story Of Edison “The man behind the bulb”.

Thomas Alva Edison, It’s amazing that the world’s greatest inventor was the son of a poor man and denied proper schooling due to extreme poverty. The only way to properly explain this is to tell you where and how it all started, hears how it went…The Edison’s emigrated from Amsterdam in the 1730s upon reaching the U. ... Not much is known of there early years in America except that the head of the Edison family was a banker in Manhattan.

Edison’s Grandfather John was on the British side during the war for Independence and had to seek refuge in Nova Scotia. ... The Edison home was a single story house with a small attic, built on a hill with the basement built in to it. ... Three of the first six died in the 1840s, Her seventh child was Thomas Alva Edison, He got the name Thomas from an ancestor and the name Alva from a Great Lakes fishing boat captain and good friend of the family.

Edison was not what you would really consider a very lucky child for he, set fire to the family barn (the poor kid was publicly beaten for that), fell in to a canal, nearly died in a grain silo, and many other unfortunate things. ... One time He was swimming with a friend of his, they had become separated while in the river earlier forcing Edison to return home alone, Sadly it turns out the kid had drown in the river (possibly sucked under by the current.) Due to that for the rest of his life he felt a pent in feeling of guilt, ironically this may have been the driving force behind Edison during his life. Other than that he was like the other kids of that time why the only thing that made him stand apart was the tendency to always test the truth in what every one told him

Upon the building of the Lake Shore railroad, the ships of the Lake greatly lost business, once that happened the local shops were forced to close down putting the Edison family out of work, they were forced to move on. ...

A short time after the family’s move north Edison caught scarlet fever keeping him out of school until the age of eight. After being in school for a short three months young Edison fled home crying about how his teacher called him things like slow, addled, retarded, stupid, ect. ... Little did the teacher know that some day he would be as smart as a turkey compared to Edison, “Now who is the slow one” Edison was heard saying while telling a story of his school days.

At the age of 12 Edison managed to convince his mother to let him take a job as a train news & concession boy forcing him to work 14 -1/2 hours a day. It was hard work for a boy Edison’s age but he was quite good at it so good in fact he had other boys working for him, giving Edison 20 dollars a week, that was a good amount in those days.

His time working in the train was pleasant expect for one thing, while running to catch the train Edison dove to grab the back railing not able to pull himself up, a hand on the train pulled Edison up by his ears, Sadly by pulling Edison up that way it caused him to begin to go deaf.
