The old argument of "nature versus nurture" has never been won, but a few characteristics of each topic play a key role in developing a person. Some believe that people behave because they were genetically predisposed to do so. Others believe that people behave because of their environments influence. In the end, both sides are true. In the Miami Herald, Robert Boyd states that, "Genes strongly influence behavior but do not control it."
Scientists have known for years that genetic traits can predispose one to a certain eye or hair color. But the nature theory goes "all the way" by saying that genes can prove ones personality, aggression, or sexual orientation. The Nurture Theory believes that our behavioral patterns originate completely from the environmental factors of our upbringing, and nothing with our genes. Robert Boyd sums it all up by stating, "Genes make certain behaviors more likely, but genes don't automatically lead to actions."
